Guild Wars, running natively on Apple Silicon

I honestly didn't expect to be writing this, but Guild Wars is now running flawlessly on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM. I'm getting a constant 60 FPS on a 4K display with the highest graphics settings.

It's also surprisingly efficient. It uses around 70% of a single CPU core on average and about 500 MB of active memory, with no thermal or performance warnings.

How it works

GWonMac runs ArenaNet's official WebAssembly client inside a dedicated macOS app. It does not bundle or modify the game — the official client and game files are downloaded directly from ArenaNet, and you sign in with your own account.

Huge credit goes to Marc Henderkes / dub_le and Jon / 3vcloud, and to everyone behind gw_in_browser and gwdevhub. Marc wrote gw_in_browser, the work that figured out how to run ArenaNet's WASM build outside the game's own launcher; Jon maintains gwdevhub and shared the proof of concept that got me started. Without their research, this version wouldn't exist. I took that approach and developed it into a polished, standalone Mac app.

Looking for testers

This is still an alpha version, so I'm looking for people who are willing to test it on different Apple Silicon Macs. Please let me know how it performs, whether you find any bugs, and what could be improved.

As far as I know, this is currently the closest thing to a native Guild Wars experience on Apple Silicon. Feel free to try it and let me know how it runs on your Mac.
